Activity Short Description:
Having been selected as a 11th grade class representative, I will be working in the Student Council to put student's suggestions forward. I will also run for President of the Student Council and hopefully will make many good changes to the organization. Being in the Student Council requires one to be innovative and to be able to work hard for the benefit students.
Personal Goal for the Activity:
By being in the Student Council, I will try to put forward all the proposals suggested by my class. Being in the Student Council allows me to present my class's suggestions or complaints to the highschool principal, therefore having the opportunity to put these forward. I will know that I have achieved it if I successfully put forward all of my class's proposals.
Anticipated Learning Outcomes:
7. Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
In order to be a successful class representative, I will have to learn to filter ethical and unethical proposals from my classmates, and will have to communicate these proposals to the highschool principal in an appropriate way.
On the last week of October, we held the first Student Council meeting of the school year; finally. I was really willing to begin working in the Student Council, as it allows me to make important changes to the experience of learning in my school. On this meeting, we were for the first time accompained by the 6th graders, who are now part of High School and the Student Council. It was very fun to ser them quietly suggesting things to the older kids. The first meeting was focused on introducing the new representatives and begin planning the new year. We were also announced that the elections for the Student Council officers are to be held the next week. I am running for president as I think I give a lot of leadership and ideas to the Student Council. Overall, I an very excited with the beginning of the year and I am looking forward to making great changes to our school for the benefit of the students.
On the first week of November, the elections for office were held for the Student Council. I run for President as well as Carmen Rita from 12th grade. My classmate representative, Pablo, run for vice-president. After giving a wonderful speech about why I would be the best candidate, I was unfortunately not elected; while Pablo was. I think I could have been a great President, as I have plenty of recent experience in the Student Council. Anyways, I am still hopeful that we will work together to change our school for the better.
On Carmen's first meeting as the President, we voted for a proposal of changing the lunchroom order. We want to make the IB student have the priority.
This month was shorter than usual due to different holidays, and therefore, we only had two meetings. In these meetings however, we were quite productive, giving ideas and organizing the strategy for the months to come. For the moment, I have only been assigned to one task along with my classmate Pablo. This task will be to organize the "Keep Our School Clean" theme for the month of January. In order to carry out the proposal, we got many ideas from the representatives at the Student Council that have served me as inspiration.
This task, however, might be quite difficult to carry out since there are only a couple of weeks left to make people aware and to get permission from the school board. Anyhow, I will focus on completing the task and I am very happy to be representing my class in the Student Council.
This month we only had two Student Council meetings due to the Christmas Break. This meetings, nevertheless, were quite productive. During the meetings, we planned a meeting with the director of the school to talk about we could make our proposals come to live. In order to make the proposals become a reality, each proposal was assigned to each member.
Apart from the proposal organizing, we also planned a fundraising event to raise funds for the good use of the Student Council. With this money, we will be able to make changes in the school, like providing a printing service or fixing benches. We thought the best and easiest way to raise money was thorugh a bakesale. The bakesale will be on the 3rd of February and each student representative will have to bring food and help with the selling.
This month started with the bakesale we organized. This sale was a total success; raising more than enough money to buy a printer and to fix some benches. All of the class representatives worked very hard to serve the school, and we were thanked by many teachers and students for the work.
On the next meeting, we discussed our future actions with the money raised and we decided we would need some advice from teachers or the principal.
Apart from the fundraiser, we also discussed a new project called International Day. I am the representative in charge of this project with help from my classmate Pablo. This is a very complex task, and I will be working on it for the next months. Last year, we planned something similar that did not finally happen; and therefore I have something to base my work on.
This month the Student Council focused on working on the International. This is a very exciting project that we did not have the time to complete last year. Nevertheless, it is a very exciting project that will help the school increase in school spirit. Last year, I was personally very involved ith the planning of the events but could not do it since the 12 graders, who were the presidents of the Student Council, had their IB exams during the time we were allowed to carry the event.
Therefore, before starting organizing the events this year, we need to make sure that there are no scheduling concerns that don't allow us to carry out the event. Apart from this project, we also worked on minor every day school life concerns that needed to be resolved, such as bad behaviour in the lunchroom from part of the little kids.
This month, we were notified that we could not carry out the International Day event we intended to carry outsince it conflicted with some examinations from the ISAs IGCSE and IB exams. This is a pity since we had carefully planned it last year and we could not put the plan into action.
Nevertheless, the Student Council is still going to help organize a new school spirit event in the school, and it will be called Pride Day. This event was proposed by Miss Stephanie a while ago and it consists of playing games competing between the blue team and the read team. I am very excited to take part in the organization of this event.
At the end of this month, the school held the Pride Day event, which was partly organized by the Student Council. It was quite a lot of effort to organize this event since a lot of permissions need to be filled and a lot of games needed to be organized.
The evnt went fantastic, and I believe that the school spirit substantially increases thanks to this event.
This is the last month of Studnet Council in the year. Although we have not made as many changes as last year, I am still proud of my work and intend to continue with the position next year.
A votation has been done at the end of the school year, and Pablo and I were told to continue next year in office. I am looking forward to improving the school next year with the collaboration of other ambitious and hard-working schoolmates.
This is a exciting new year for me and Pablo in the Student Council. We are now senior and are in our last year in school, and are looking forward to make great changes and leaving a legacy in the school.
Since there is a new highschool principal in the school, no meetings have yet been appointed and therefore our progress in the Student Council is minimal. We hope to start as soon as possible.
On the second week of October, we have had our introductory meeting to this school year's student council. I am very excited to start working with the new high school principal since he seems to be willing to work close with us in order to improve the student experience.
With the new principal, new member elections come with it. The high school principal has told us to announce our classmates that there will be a votation on who wants to this year's class representatives. The elections will be held in November.
I am running again as a class representative, this time with the hope of becoming president of the Student Council. However, the votation system randomly implemented by our homeroom teacher clearly favor the female candidates in our class, and therefore, I was not elected representative. This is a shame since I was very motivated to bring change to our school and already had the experience in the Student Council to bring that changes. Despite this last upset moment, I am very happy and proud of my collaborative work in the Student Council, which has brought many necessary and useful changes to our student experience.
