Activity Short Description:
For two months, I will be writing poems once a week. On my daily life, I feel the need to express my thoughts, and there is no better way than writing poems.
Personal Goal for the Activity:
With this activity, I will try to learn to express myself better than I currently do. By writing poetry, I will be able to express my deepestthoughts more easily than by speaking. I will know that I have achieved my objectives if I can successfully write down my thoughts and if I feel proud of my creative work.
Anticipated Learning Outcomes:
1. Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth:
While writing poems, I will analyse my weaknesses and express them in the poem. Apart from that, in order to perfect my poetry writing skills, I will have to get feedback from others and try to improve every week.
I am very excited to begin writing poems. This is a task that I really like doing, although I do not do much due to my lack of time and due to the social exclusion towards poetry. I think that writing poems is like writing a diary, it is putting your raw thoughts into paper.
This is the first week I am writing a poem, and my objective for each week is to poetically show what my opinions are towards the ocurrances around. In order to express these thoughts simply but with a deep meaning, I have chosen to haikus, a special type of poetry. I will also do this in the following weeks.
This is the first week of my Christmas break, and unfortunately for me, I have plenty of homework. This week's haiku shows my frustation towards the teachers that advice us to rest during our vacations and, at the same time, give us plenty of homework.
Rest and have much fun
During your long holidays;
That is what they say.
In order to write the haikus for my blog, I have researched on how to properly write a haiku. In the process, I have found that many haikus published in the Internet by users are formatted wrong. I believe this people should need a "haiku template" for them to finally write them correctly. As a result, this week's haiku is actually a template for properly writing a haiku.
This is a haiku
Properly written haiku
Others are just wrong.
This week, I have played the first basketball match of the year; and have won it in the last seconds of the game. The haiku on the left shows the tension of the home spectators before me making the game-winning shot. I have realized that haikus might be short, but they packs lots of deeper meaning that can be hard to analyze.
Two seconds to go
The cheerful crowd gets silent
And roars once again.
This week's haiku also focuses on basketball. This time, I am expressing my feelings when I am playing ball. During the last few days, my performance both in practices and in matches have possibly been the best in my life, and my feelings about it a presented in the haiku. The content of the poem is a bit exaggerated; this is done to show my motivation when playing basketball recently.
When the games begin
All the basketballs become
The objects I swish.
This is the last week I will be writing a haiku, and I have got to say that my critical thinking has dramatically improved. From the first day, I have began to reflect on my actions; and I am considering on continuing writing haikus for the weeks to come.
Although this week's haiku is a bit pessimistic, I actually have loved writing them throughout these weeks. The problem, however, is that I have lost lots of time that I could have used to strengthen the relationships with my friends; something that I find very important in my life.
So why the IB
We are not going out much
To write some haikus.
