Activity Short Description:

At the heart of Prague's urban art district Holesovice, I will learn about the techniques and styles of street art and graffiti before creating my own canvas to take home, in partnership with professional street artist team at Alternative Tours.

Personal Goal for the Activity:

With this activity, I hope to learn how to make a proper graffiti. I have always wanted to paint a graffity of my own, but I do not have the skills to do so. By completing this activity, I will learn how to make graffiti, since I will be guided by a professional. I will know I have achieved my objectives if the guide congratulates me on my work.

Anticipated Learning Outcomes:

2. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process:

Even though I have always wanted to, this is the first time I will be painting graffiti, hopefully also creating new skills in the process.

Reflection

On the last morning of the CAS Trigue in Prague, we were sent to a small studio outside of town learn how to make a graffiti of our own. Of course, we were not allowed to make the graffitis on the walls, and therefore had to make the graffiti on a canvas that could be taken home.

For the first 30 or so minutes, our instructor talked to us about a bit of the street art movement in Prague and told us everything necessary for us to begin working on our canvas. First of all, we were given many different templates to choose from. It was curious to see that the girl's group got more romantic templates while the boy's group got violent templates to choose from. Right after, we were given a cutter in order to cut through the template's black lines. After doing so with meticulous detail, we were provided with many different color sprays. The instructor also made a demonstration how to make our graffity look 3D. This was interesting, but I am more of a minimalistic person, and chose two contrating colors. I carefully sprayed the color into the canvas with cut-off template, let the canvas dry, and I was finished!

I really enjoyed making a graffiti of my own since I had always wanted to do so. My instructor gave the approval to my work, although not looking very amused by my simplicity. I will definitely try to make graffiti another time on my own.
