Activity Short Description:
For 5 consecutive days, I will be going out to run with my dad for an approximate of 45 mintues each.
Personal Goal for the Activity:
What I hope to accomplish with this activity is to be physically fit for when I come back to the basketball season. Running is one of the most complete activities in order to stay in shape and it can be practiced anywhere. I will know that I have achieved my objectives if I complete what I propose and if I feel in shape when I come back to play basketball.
Anticipated Learning Outcomes:
4. Show commitment to and perserverance in CAS experiences:
Going running is sometimes not very exciting, that is why I will have to be commited and perserverant to complete the activity as proposed.
This has been the first day my dad and I have gone to run. For the following week, I will be on vacation on an island named Tenerife, which is great for running as there is a very long walking road along the shore.
I feel motivated to run, however, my shoes are too small for me to appropriately run. This is my fault because I did not anticipate this. Neverrtheless, I will run today and I will try to buy a pair of shoes for the next days.
Today, we went a bit slow because I wanted to go at my dad's pace and observe the nature around us. At the end, we ended at a pace of 5:20 minutes per km, and we run 8 kilometers. This is not bad considering the hot weather, the hurting shoes, and the first time running after 4 months.
Right after running the day before, I bought a pair of running shoes. This task probably was harder than running since no store had my shoe size.
Today, my dad and I decided we would take another route. This time, instead of going to Los Cristianos, we would go to La Caleta and back. This was 9 kilometers and we complete it in 5:10 minutes per km. This is some improvement from yesterday, but the most noticeable improvement is that we are now getting used to running without getting hurt. Today was slighty colder, and I appreciated this since I barely got tired.
In the next days, I will try to improve our marks and will try to run at my pace sometime if possible.
Today we went to Los Cristianos because we consider the path more enjoyable. There is usually less people walking there and the road is flat most of the time. The only problem with this route is that we can only run a maximum of 8 kilometers; and therefore, we will try to improve by running faster.
For 5 kilometers, I run alongside my dad trying to push him below the 5 minutes per kilometer mark. At the end, he did not achieve that for 5 seconds, which is still great for him.
For the last 3 kilometers, I accelerated and went as fast as I could with the fatigue of the 5 previous kilometers. Finally, I ended at 4:34 minutes per kilomerter. This does not look very fast compared to the fast pace of 3:41 minutes per kilometer I was able to achieve at some points.
I am very happy with our work, and I think this is the way to go to start the basketball season again.
Today I have been quite tired from yesterday's intense exercise, and therefore, I was not planning on running as fast. Instead, I would run farther at a lower pace.
Throughout the entire 9.47km we ran at a pace of 5:10. This is not bad considering that we are a bit tired of running all this days cotinuously. I have seen a great improvement in bot of us, but specially on my dad, who is now comfortable at these distances and paces.
Today's weather was ideal, not too hot of cold, and the sun did not strongly shine on our faces like other days. I am starting to like the idea of going running everyday. I feel like this can turn into one of my habits one day. It also makes me feel more alive, and puts me in shape!
This is the last day I will be running. It started out to be a bit hard, but then ended up being something I enjoy doing. In order to end in the best way possible, I would try to enjoy the views and run at a normal pace. This was also my last place at this location, so I also wanted to enjoy the beautiful sunset whilst running.
My dad and I went to run at 6:30 and the sunset came when we were almost done with running. Today, we ran 8 kilometers at a pace of 5:12 minutes per kilometers. I run smoothly without any problems.
I believe running during this Christmas break has been a great decision for me. I have realized the importance of repeating an action in order for it to become a habit, and I am also coming back to the basketball seaon in shape.
