Once a month

Activity Short Description:

Every month, I will prepare a meal for my family. These meals will be different every time, and the meals will be hard to cook; that way I will become a good cook.

Personal Goal for the Activity:

I will try to improve my cooking skills so that I can become more self-sufficient when I leave off to college. By preparing hard to make recipes, I will learn new skills in order to have successful results. I will know if I have achieved my objectives if I cook consistently and if my family enjoys the food.

Anticipated Learning Outcomes:

2. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process:

The biggest challenge I face with this activity is that I do not have many skills in order to cook a tasty meal, and I will have to develop new cooking skills in order to prepare tasty meals.

4. Show commitment to and perserverance in CAS experiences:

This will be one of the longest-lasting activities I will complete in the two-year course. In order to complete it, no excuses are accepted, and food must be prepared every month.

Atalaya de Laredo

My friends Jorge Pablo and  decided to embark on a new CAS experience that we had not done before. After giving it some thought, we decided to go hikings together. We found the right time and place to do it and went hiking. During the second weekend of February, Jorge and I did not have any soccer/basketballgames so it is the perfect time to go hiking. Jorge told us about a cool spot in Laredo to go hiking, called the Atalaya, so we decided to go there and give hiking a shot.

We went to Laredo in with Jorge's dad in the morning with special rugged shoes, and we went rigt to hike the mountain. The hike was an hour long up and 45 minutes down. All throughout the hike, there were view of Laredo's beautiful beach, which made the effort a lot easier. However, the best view was yet to come from the top of the mountain. Fromn there, there was a clear view of Laredo in the left and view of other small beaches in the right. It was an awesome experience. The hike itself was not very demanding but we did sweat a bit and got hungry for when we came back.

The best part of hiking was not just the gratification of reaching the summit or looking at the views, it was spending quality technology-free time with my friends. We talked a lot throughout the hike and had an amazing time. We promised that we would repeat hiking as soon as the IB exams were over.
