Activity Short Description:

I will be practicing the sport of bobsleigh in Prague's one and only outdoor metal bobsleigh track. I will have to use balance, skill and judgement to register the perfect circuit.  

Personal Goal for the Activity:

With this activity, I hope to learn how to practice a sport that I have never practiced before, and do my best to master it. Bobsleigh is a sport that I have not yet practiced. I will know if I have achieved my objectives if I ride the circuit fast and without falling off.

 

Anticipated Learning Outcomes:

1. Identify own strengths and develop areas of growth:

I will have the chance to ride the circuit three times, and therefore need to realise the things I failed on in the previous rides in order to improve in the next ride.

Reflection

On the morning of our third day in Prague, our guides sent us to a famous metal bobsleigh track just outside of the city. We got there and we saw no one but us in the enclosure. This was perfect, since it meant that we would not have traffic in the way down the track. We were allowed to go down to a maximum of 3 times, individually or in pairs. I decided to go in pairs, twice with my classmate Pablo, and once with my classmate Gonzalo.

 

Before going off, our guides warned us that bobleigh carts with two riders tend to fall of the track mor easily due to the increased weight, and therefore we should hit the break when the signals pointed out so. I and my classmates, nevertheless, did not take importance to those words and decided to ride the fastest possible since we only had 3 rides.

 

The first was fast but we did hit the break a couple of times. It was fun, but going faster would have been more fun. The second time, we literally did not hit the brakes and it was so much fun. We learned that bobsleighing was actually somewhat tiring mainly due to the need to not fall of to the track. The third ride was similar to the second one.

 

Overall, I had lots of fun practicing this sport and achieved my objective of riding fast and without falling off.
